= To those experiencing sound crackling and popping = Some dude at newegg said the following about this card, which might give some ideas:
SYNTHOGY IVORY 2 KONTAKT DRIVERS
Has this m-audio card already worked for you in other applications on this computer? Just wondering because the original drivers for this card didn't work with windows 7 and then the updates were outdated at some point and wouldn't work right with that os either and there was some problem with upgrading from the supplied disk rather than just installing clean from the website. That said once you get latency below a certain threshold getting in even less makes no difference so you don't have to shut down everything as you can live with a 10mS buffer ASIO allows you to adjust the buffer size so you can trade off latency for better audio quality and the more non-music stuff you remove the smaller the latency. Again the Mac is good at squashing that stuff for you but on a Windows PC it is a do it yourself thing. Shut of the WiFi networking, pull out the Ethernet cable. For example you don't need background disk indexing and email while you play the piano. In addition, on a Windows PC you need to disable everything that is not music related.
SYNTHOGY IVORY 2 KONTAKT MOVIE
The stock Windows sound system is designed for movie playback not for music. With some effort, you can gain much of that on a Windows PC if you replace the guts of the Window audio system with a new third party audio device driver. The larger buffer improves the odds.Īpple Macs don't really have a problem because they are much better at filling the buffer in a smooth and predictable way, so the buffer in the Mac can be much smaller. On a stock Windows PC al of this is non-deterministic and laws of statistics apply. Using a large buffer greatly reduces the chance of running out of data but it also causes a delay. This works fine unless the buffer goes empty.

then the data are clocked out the other end at the exact sample rate.
SYNTHOGY IVORY 2 KONTAKT SOFTWARE
The software writes the data into a large buffer or "queue" and it does this in batches, not smoothly at all.

What you found out is that a larger buffer fixes the problem. It is not that the sound card is not "powerful". I guess as I'm writing this now, I'm almost concluding that my sound card isn't powerful enough to render the sound correctly. audio suffers from pops, repeating clicks and what I would describe as a warbling pitch during any kind of a sustain or resonance. The one thing that worked amazingly, and is also very comical, is when I became frustrated I switched the audio device to my Graphic's card's HDMI out.and the sound quality was beautiful, granted the latency made it completely unplayable but to my shock the sample rate was 192,400 and the sound was beautiful. The problem that I am having is when I play back the samples directly from the Cantabile host software the audio suffers from pops, repeating clicks and what I would describe as a warbling pitch during any kind of a sustain or resonance. I've recently purchased a copy of Ivory 2 for use with my Kawai MP10 DP.

So, enough about you - let's talk about me. First off let me just start by saying that while this is my first post on this site, I've been haunting if for some time now so thanks to you all for compiling this wealth of knowledge!
